Day Two

Not so bad at all! Yesterday I ate Sushi for lunch. Accidentally ordered the combo that had chicken terriaki in it. It was sad to not eat it but I didn't loose sleep about it.

For dinner I made the rice and beans recipe from my previous post. It came out pretty good but the extra virgin olive oil I used was either crappy or I put too much in.

Here's what last nights meal looked like:

Today I went to Au Bon Pain for lunch and had a Portobella Mushroom and Goat Cheese Sandwich. Pretty tasty!

Day One

So this is day one. I'll have lunch in an hour and I'm looking forward to finding an alternative to the "meat plus sides" equation that I've been accustomed to.

I found a recipe for dinner tonight that will use the black beans from last night. I'm also planning on buying more peanut butter for energy and seeing what fun culinary experiments can be had. I know coconut milk and peanut butter makes a great dip for thai chicken satay, I wonder if I can use it as a sauce for a sweeter vegetable.

Here's what I'm going to make tonight:

Welcome

Today I decided that to voluntarily stop eating meat for a month. Yesterday I grilled a huge steak and today I ate a chicken burrito at Chipotle. I don't have a moral issue with eating meat but would like to learn about the healthy alternatives as well as new recipe ideas.

It's funny, when I think of vegetarians or vegans, I usually think of thin people who aren't athletic. I've often wondered what came first, being skinny or being vegetarian. When I think about the people I know that have made the decision to "vegitize" I realize that they have been thin their whole lives, victims to a very fast metabolism. I wonder now, if they choose the lifestyle because their metabolism enhances the effects of the food. Well, I don't want to get skinny. In fact, I need to bulk up muscle so I will be in better shape for rockclimbing, one of my favorite hobbies.

This blog will hold my progress and stats like weight, how I feel, and recipes that I've used.

Because I haven't done any research into this style of food consumption, I will be relying a lot on friends. NandoRocker did this experiment last month and has a blog so I'm hoping he can help!

To kick it off...tomorrow I will be eating beans! Here are the first 4 cans that will be my protein nourishment for the first few days.
